WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a Japanese therapeutic technique for relaxation and stress reduction that aids in the body's natural ability to heal itself. Life force energy, commonly referred to as chi, ki or prana, flows through pathways in and around the bodies of all living things. When stress and trauma of daily life inhibit the flow of this energy, the energy can become stagnant or blocked. If not treated, emotional, mental and physical symptoms may occur. Reiki works to help restore the energy flow to its ideal state, supporting the body’s natural healing process. This can address issues that affect the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. It encourages overall well-being and balance. Studies have shown that when a person receives Reiki, the energy shifts their nervous system from the sympathetic (fight or flight mode) to the parasympathetic (rest, digest and restore mode) While in the parasympathetic mode the body is able to fully rest and relax. This is paramount to our health by helping the body with cellular repair and restoration.
What Is Reiki Like?
During the Reiki session clients may feel waves of subtle energy gently moving through their body. Others may experience heat or coolness from the practitioner’s hands and perhaps even see comforting colors or visions. While these are normal responses, it is also completely common to “feel” nothing during the session, but still be left with a sense of deep relaxation, overall wellbeing and inner peace. What is important to remember is that Reiki works on all levels, so even though there might not be a physical sensation, the energy could be working on a deep emotional or spiritual level.
What Will My Session Be Like?
Although each session is unique for each person. There are some things that are the same for everyone: When you arrive for your session, you will be asked to fill out a brief intake form. Additionally we may talk about anything that has been going on for you, or intentions you would like to focus on for your session. You will get comfortable (resting on your back) on the Reiki Treatment table fully clothed but without shoes, with the option to have support pillows and or blankets for comfort. Then verbally guided into a relaxing meditative state, to focus on your breath and body awareness. Throughout the session you will feel hand placements gently on or above your body. During a session a practitioner is usually quiet, this helps a client to stay in a relaxed meditative state. However if anything arises for you that you feel you need or want to verbalize, please know it's always alright to share. As the session comes to a close you will be gently guided out of the session and we can sit and go over your experience. Often times, clients are in a relaxed and calm state, some like to stay and share, others it takes a few days to process and they prefer to follow up at a later time. There is not one right way, it's all unique and individual to each person.
*Please note Reiki is not a replacement for medical or mental health care. Reiki works in combination with medical and psychological therapies to help facilitate recovery and healing. If you have medical conditions currently being treated by or which should be treated by a physician, it is very important that you continue (or seek out) that care. A Reiki practitioner cannot give medical diagnoses or advice.*
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
